Our History – 1998

Our Citizen of the Year for 1998 was local stalwart, Jimmy Boyle, who had been involved in the organising team of the Gala, and in other community groups and events, especially for the town’s elderly residents, for many years.

Our Gala Queen in 1998 was: Debbie Adamson

Our Gala Princesses were: Lisa Kirby & Louise Rae

It was an American theme for the big Gala in 1998 as the date fell on the 4th July – Independence Day.

Kenny Aitken snapped some of the action in the 1998 Parade in Cowdenbeath too in these images.

The 1998 Civic Week programme picked up the American theme and laid out all the range of events that were to entertain folk in the town that summer. Programme was designed by Stuart Duffy, edited by Mary Maxwell and printed at the CPU by Fife Council.

The Central Fife Times had a big full page splash, reporting on all the events of Cowdenbeath’s big day! (9th July 1998)

It was front page news for the 3rd Cowdenbeath Brownie Pack with their NASA space-themed float, which won first prize in the floats competition!
