Our History – 1995

In 1995 it was agreed to award the Citizen of the Year to Normandy veteran John McGhee, in a special year as it was also the 50th Anniversary of VE Day.

Our Gala Queen in 1995 was: Tracy Rankin

She was supported by Princesses: Michelle Lockhart & Tracey Webb

Local Community Worker at Broad Street Centre, Kenny Aitken, took photos of many Galas and captured the fun of our 1995 event here, including the amazing floats with the MAD Dancers “Bassetts Allsorts” float taking 1st place!

Kenny also managed to shoot some of the park events in between hotdogs!

Stuart Duffy also snapped some of the events in the public park in 1995 in these images.

Thanks to Cath Webb who submitted these pictures of her daughter Tracey who was a Gala Princess this year.

In these years, one of the big events in our Civic Week was the Children’s Day and Kenny Aitken again captures some of the sports and events held at Beath High playing fields.

The annual Cowdenbeath Pet Show was also held in 1995 at the Broad Street Community Centre, with pictures from Kenny Aitken showing some of the fun.

Press coverage of the big day included this fab front page image of Broad St Centre Junior Youth Club’s winning float, modelled on Bertie Bassett’s Allsorts sweets!
